No. 001 | Unearthing Treasure At Dusk : AEJL Jewellery Boxes

An Enchanted Meeting

When your AEJL piece arrives, the packaging is the first touchpoint to the world of AEJL: a world of slowness, craft, and the enduring value of well-made objects. It is a reminder that jewellery is a ritual of adornment, one of the oldest known traditions shared across cultures and time. These precious objects deserve to be held in something that honours this uniquely human act.

The Story Behind AEJL Packaging Suite

When I began designing the AEJL packaging suite, I knew it needed to feel like more than a box. AEJL Jewellery is made slowly, thoughtfully, and with deep respect for the objects we choose to carry through our lives. The packaging needed to embody that same sense of care. It is a ritual, a home, an object that enters your life, so I wanted it to be something people would genuinely love and want.

I kept returning to one core feeling that evokes the AEJL world: sitting at the edge of the ocean rock pools, looking over the water just after sunset. To me, dusk is the most beautiful time of day. For a moment, everything goes quiet. You can’t help but feel a sense of peace and mystery. The moon rises, the stars begin to shine, and night awaits you.

A Palette Drawn From Dusk

The deep plum tone of the AEJL packaging mirrors the ocean and sky just after the sun slips below the horizon, the moment when the world cools and welcomes you into stillness. The colour needed to feel timeless, grounded, and quietly powerful. A hue that can live with you for decades, subtly reminding you of a timeless moment of peace.

Textures Chosen for Ritual

The outer boxes use a matte, almost stone-like finish, designed to feel like lifting the lid from an archival artefact. The pouches take inspiration from objects carried close to the body: worn leather books, cherished pockets and a home for small, precious treasures kept for safekeeping. With each touch, the packaging surface reveals subtle shifts in texture, like leaving an impression in sand. The closure of the box is intentionally soft and unmechanical, encouraging a quiet, unhurried unboxing ritual. Each AEJL piece is also gift wrapped in our signature wrapping style and sealed with a wax seal of the house monogram, marking the moment with a sense of ceremony.

A Design that Transforms

The AEJL packaging has a unique design feature, the internal inserts for each box can be removed, allowing the box to transform into a vessel for your own treasures.

It becomes a home for anything small and precious: rocks, shells, jewellery, love notes, trinkets or any small treasure that comes into your life. A tiny archive of moments that matter.

A Treasure Meant to be Found

The AEJL Packaging Suite represents everything I believe jewellery should evoke: ritual, intimacy, discovery, whimsy, and curiosity. It is a small ritual that marks the beginning of your connection with the piece… how it will be worn, understood and carried, the memories it will hold, and how it will become part of your story.
